Sofia is our compassionate, dynamic, social justice advocate, who values empowering others to find their inner strength and worth. Community is important to Sofia who has many years of experience campaigning for issues such as women’s health conditions, equality, and social justice. Her passion for this has led her to represent these issues at a national level. She is experienced in working with individuals who live with chronic health concerns including fibromyalgia and endometriosis. Sofia’s areas of specialist interest include neurodivergent conditions such as ADHD and autism, working in the LGBTQIA+ community, depression, anxiety, fertility issues, women’s health, and gender identity.
As a queer, neurodivergent therapist, Sofia appreciates the challenges and minority stress that can accompany living in a neurotypical normative world. Sofia is skilled at providing a space where clients can explore their gender identity and sexual orientation. All in an environment where there are no right or wrong answers, free from judgement or expectations.
No matter what challenges clients are facing in life, Sofia welcomes everyone to her therapy room. Fiona believes that both our physical and mental health benefit from spending time in nature. Time outdoors helps reduce stress and anxiety levels, boosts our mood, and enhances overall well-being. She is currently undertaking a qualification in Forest Therapy to incorporate this into her practice and will soon be offering walk and talk therapy.
As a counsellor who works with bereavement, Fiona understands the complexities that can accompany grief and loss. Healing from this is not about forgetting but learning to live with the loss and honour the grief. Hope, recovery, and healing are possible. Fiona has worked with various organizations specializing in counselling for bereavement, including Cruse Bereavement. Furthermore, she has over a decade of experience working in the community where she has provided care and support to individuals and their families during end of life. She also specializes in dementia support and empathizes with the helplessness, confusion, and anxiety that come with chronic sorrow and ongoing loss.
Fiona also offers counselling for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, regardless of gender. She offers a warm, welcoming, non-judgmental space where you can share as much or as little as you want at your own pace. All emotions are welcome; there is no right or wrong way to process these experiences.
Fiona's work with trauma continues to grow as she develops and expands her knowledge in this field. Childhood, family, and relationship trauma can follow you into adulthood and impact all areas of life, having a profound effect on our mental health. This can manifest in many ways including difficulty in forming healthy relationships, struggles with self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and stress, as well as an altered sense of self. Fiona provides a space where individuals can talk about their experiences and begin to make sense of their reactions, thoughts, feelings, and emotions.
Other areas of interest for Fiona include ADHD, anxiety, depression, health-related issues, personal growth, and post-traumatic stress. Whatever brings you to therapy, she will accompany you on your journey. You do not have to do it alone.
Fiona is a registered member of both COSCA and the BACP giving you peace of mind that her practice is ethically sound and supported by the professional governing bodies for the Scotland & the UK.
